Exposition of the need to design and/or re-engineer processing plants, so as to minimize their environmental liabilities; identification, classification and evaluation of the various processing technologies with respect to their environmental effects; the use of clean and safe solvents, catalysts and additives, recycling and regeneration practices, minimizing solvent uses; design of clean, or cleaner, operations; interrelationships among various plant operations, and optimization of such relationships; economic comparisons of using clean vs. conventional technologies, followed by effluent treatment operations; case studies in various technological sectors.
